The brilliance of previous week’s episode was hard to follow, but last night’s AEW show felt relatively smaller in magnitude as we embark on the Road to Double or Nothing. With that being said, there were a few notable moments, especially when it comes to announcements for future shows or the upcoming Pay-Per-View itself.

What were your thoughts on this episode? How did NXT fare against AEW in terms of quality this week? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Here are the five biggest news stories from this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite (May 13, 2020).

#5: Mike Tyson will make a guest appearance at AEW Double or Nothing

During the course of last night’s episode, the AEW commentary team (Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur) announced that “Iron” Mike Tyson will be presenting the TNT Championship at Double or Nothing, where Cody and Lance Archer are scheduled to wrestle for that title as well.

This is a huge deal for diehard fans of this industry, who are well aware of how Mike Tyson helped WWE take a step further in the Monday Night Wars against WCW back in the day.

We also know that Tyson can get physically involved whenever he wants to, and if you’ve been recently following his social media, it looks like the 53-year old Professional boxer might be returning to fight soon.

NXT and AEW have a competition of their own right now, and it is a huge deal for Tony Khan and his crew to reel in such a huge name for their upcoming Pay-Per-View.

#4: Chris Jericho destroyed Matt Hardy’s drone and challenged The Elite to a Stadium Stampede Match

“Pineapple Pete” Suge D got a huge opportunity against Chris Jericho in singles competition on AEW Dynamite.

For weeks, Jericho has been unintentionally putting over Pineapple Pete on commentary. Last night, he made quick work of Suge D before moving on to the bigger picture.

After a wild street fight in the previous episode, Jericho took it one step further and challenged The Elite to a Stadium Stampede Match at AEW Double or Nothing. Matt Hardy’s trademark drone, Vanguard One, arrived to accept the challenge, but Le Champion had different plans this time around.

He introduced a baseball bat as The Inner Circle’s latest member, and dubbed it “Floyd”.

Jericho and the gang used “Floyd” to destroy Vanguard One forever, as Matt Hardy arrived to mourn its loss a few moments later.

This was a goofy segment that stuck out from an otherwise plain episode of AEW Dynamite. Some of The Elite’s prominent members have been missing in action for quite a while now, that should change next week as we only have one episode left before AEW Double or Nothing.

#3: Cody brawled with Lance Archer in response to Jake Roberts’ unsavory actions

Jake “The Snake” Roberts set the wrestling world on fire after he literally tossed a snake over Brandi Rhodes on last week’s AEW Dynamite.

Some fans thought he had crossed a line in the sanitized world we live in today. But Roberts made sure his character won’t adjust according to modern world rules, as the veteran continued to spout the unsavory nature of his actions at the beginning of last night’s AEW episode.

Cody had enough at this point and drove his vehicle into the exterior barricade of the arena. Before we knew it, Cody and Lance Archer were brawling instantaneously.

They gave us a preview of what to expect at AEW Double or Nothing. For the first time since Archer arrived on AEW, he had to stand back against Cody’s path of fury.

Jake Roberts and Arn Anderson will go face-to-face on next week’s edition of Dynamite. That should certainly be an interesting conversation between the two veterans, as both Cody and Lance Archer prepare for the final round of AEW’s TNT Championship Tournament.

#2: Hikaru Shida earned a title shot against Nyla Rose in a No Disqualification match at AEW Double or Nothing

Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, and Penelope Ford wrestled in a Fatal-4-Way bout to determine the number #1 contender for the AEW Women’s World Champion, Nyla Rose.

The match itself was bittersweet in terms of botches and timing. On one hand, Hikaru Shida’s victory made sense. She is one of the fastest rising stars in AEW, but last night’s bout showed some flaws in chemistry between all four women in the ring.

Don’t get me wrong, all four of them are talented enough as individuals, but it looks like missing out on action surely affects a wrestler’s timing in the ring.

Later, Nyla Rose interrupted Hikaru Shida’s backstage interview and hit the challenger with a Kendo Stick on the head. This prompted the officials to schedule a No Disqualification title match between Rose and Shida at AEW Double or Nothing.

The AEW Women’s Division has had its own share of ups and downs, but the No Disqualification stipulation should give them the freedom to put on a great contest during AEW’s upcoming Pay-Per-View.

#1: Jon Moxley tried to get his title back from Brodie Lee after the main event

The Exalted One, Brodie Lee, defeated SCU’s Christopher Daniels in the main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite.

After the match, Moxley arrived to take back his AEW title from Mr. Brodie Lee. The latter threw his Dark Order minions in front of the rightful champion to escape for the night. Moxley cut a promo about how he will remind Lee that the title represents something more than a physical accomplishment.

The Dark Order storyline has received mixed criticism from many AEW fans, and people hoped that Brodie Lee’s arrival would change things for the better. Now, the Dark Order remains an interesting, yet undefined faction ahead of Double or Nothing.

Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee have faced each other several times before, both inside and outside WWE’s territory. But not all of their matches have been great, so it will be interesting to see how both of them fare at AEW Double or Nothing with only one more episode to go.
