Noughties hits like The Holiday and Love Actually are two films that are arguably the epitome of true romance and continue to be favorites every Christmas, but there are some other memorable moments out there.
Newsweek has a recap of the 5 classic Christmas movie moments that you will not want to miss this festive season.
1. Buddy’s First Date — Elf
Elf, starring Will Ferrell, and Zooey Deschanel has been a Christmas staple since its release in 2003.
There may not be a grand loving gesture between Buddy (played by Will Ferrell) and Jovie (Zooey Deschanel) in Elf, but their wholesome first date is surely one for the history books.
Buddy takes Jovie around New York City, showing her all of his favorite things along the way including spinning through revolving doors at an NYC department store and drinking “crappy coffee”. In return, Jovie takes him ice skating and to look at the incredible Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.
Buddy and Jovie look like they are having one of the best nights of their lives and nothing warms the cold heart like seeing two people so happy together.
2. Jamie & Aurélia — Love Actually
Love Actually is full of romantic moments, the clue is even in the film’s name but one of the show’s standout scenes is between Colin Firth’s Jamie and Lúcia Moniz’s Aurélia.
Jamie travels all the way to France to declare his love for his former housekeeper Aurélia and tries his best at telling her his true feelings in Portuguese, her first language. He even gets down on one knee in front of a big crowd.
If you’re not crying yet, you will when Aurélia tells Jamie she feels the same way in broken English.
3. Mark and Juliet — Love Actually
Another classic Love Actually moment is when Mark (Andrew Lincoln) takes his cue cards all the way to Notting Hill to tell Juliet (Kiera Knightley), who happens to be his best friend Peter’s fiancé, that he is in love with her.
In the scene, Mark pours his entire heart out via cue cards, and finally, they kiss before she runs back inside.
4. Amanda Returns To Graham — The Holiday
The Holiday, stars Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black and took the world by storm in 2006.
One scene that is sure to make your heart melt is when Amanda (Cameron Diaz) leaves an upset Graham (Jude Law) behind at the cottage to return home to Los Angeles.
However, in the classic romance trope, nobody is getting sick of, Amanda realizes she does not want to be without Graham and returns to the cottage to tell him her true feelings.
5. Ice Skating — Serendipity
The ending of Serendipity will have you happy-crying for weeks. The film follows the story of soulmates Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) who find themselves crossing paths across New York City and San Francisco.
They finally meet at the end of the film in New York Central Park’s ice rink after Jonathan finds Sara’s jacket near the ice rink.
With Jonathan lying in the middle of the rink, Sara makes her way across the ice and the pair have the most passionate kiss you may ever see in a movie, let alone a Christmas movie.
